THINK GREEN

We're back from a summer break! I herd lots of great music and will be posting shorly but man.... The north country is alive and well. The summer was full of flora, fauna, music and green living.

A new found purpose in my life is to change my greedy consumer ways. Stop spending on stupid little things and be more aware of what's going on around me. Sustainable living. A lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual's or society's use of the Earth's natural resources. We're rapidly approaching 7 billion on this planet. If 1/4 of us changed a few things in our lives we can make a huge impact. The key I think is, take action and connect with others doing the same thing NOW!!!....

Here's a few I do.

1. Buy organic and locally grown food. Or better yet, grow your own.

Supermarkets leave the impression that every fruit and vegetable should be available year-round. However, in order to accommodate this demand, they stock produce that has been shipped cross-country if not from other continents. Buying locally saves shipping energy and preserves both flavor and nutrients. http://100milediet.org/

2. Take Action

Make change as a Cyber activist: sign petitions, stay informed, put pressure on government and more. Stay informed and volunteer

3. Reuse, Reuse, Reuse

Since plastic grocery bags can't be recycled, take them back to the store and use them to bag your new groceries. Use rechargeable batteries to reduce hazardous waste from dead batteries. Reduce your waste. Bring your own coffee cup or water bottle to work to avoid buying Styrofoam or paper cups and throwing them away every day. Also, bring your lunch in a reusable container rather than a disposable paper bag. Lastly, make sure your company has an easy-to-use recycling program and that everyone is educated on how it works.

4. Drive Intelligently

Combine errands. Carpool. Take public transit or walk/bike. I once took the train northbound, when I actually could have drove my van. It was cheaper, a cool ride and let me catch up on some reading too.

There are plenty of other things we all can do...but the most important
Is: take action now.

Lifestyle choices and decisions. We loose everything or we have everything to gain. It's your choice.

Cheers
Wino
